Birth anniversary of Legendary actor Pradeep Kumar. Pradeep Kumar was born on 4 January 1925, in West Bengal. Pradeep Kumar was an Indian actor who is recognized for his work in Hindi, Bengali, and English-language films.
Veteran actor Pradeep Kumar was well-known for his enrichment of the Hindi and Bengali film industry. Starting his career as an actor at the young age of 17, he made his appearance in his first film in the Bengali film industry and acted in the movie Alaknanda in 1947. He then decided to make his venture into the Hindi film industry and caught an important role in the movie Anand Math (1952). Pradeep Kumar promptly starred in a lead role in the movie Anarkali (1953) and acted with the then superstar actress Vyjayanthimala in the movie Nagin (1954).
Pradeep Kumar started off his acting career with Bengali films but later moved to Mumbai to try his luck in the Hindi film industry. After playing some fewer side roles here and there, he finally showed his vitality as an actor with an excellent performance in the patriotic Hindi film named Anand Math in the year 1952.
After the movie Anand Math, he worked as a lead and supporting actor and played the lead hero to all the leading and star actresses of Bollywood through the decade of the 1950s like Nargis, Meena Kumari, Asha Parekh, and Madhubala among others. His good run remained in the decade of the 1960s as well.
Some of the most famous films of his career carry Taj Mahal and Anarkali with Bina Rai, Raat Aur Din and Adalat with Bollywood actress Nargis and Gateway of India with actress Madhubala among others were his most triumphant films.
Chalti Ka Naam Zindagi (1982) and the hit film Teesri Aankh (1982), starring Bollywood actor Dharmendra, were two other films that gave him famous success. He had also starred in Kamal Amrohi’s Razia Sultan (1983), which gained critical acclaim. He then played small roles in films like Duniya (1984), Purana Mandir (1984), Oonche Log (1985), Waaris (1988), Aakhri Baazi (1989) and Jaan-E-Wafa (1990).
His on–screen pairing with Beena Roy and Meena Kumari was well supported. After the decade of the 1960s, he was seen in character roles. For his contribution, he was presented with the Kalakar Award under the category of Lifetime Achievement Award in the year 1999. Pradeep Kumar died in Calcutta on 27 October 2001, at the age of 76.
